Check the signature in File Explorer
- Right-click the downloaded installer and choose Properties.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab. Starix Technology CO., LTD. should be listed as the signer, with a timestamp.
- Select the signature and choose Details. Windows should report that the digital signature is OK.
Check with PowerShell
Open Windows PowerShell and run these commands. They assume the file is in your Downloads folder; change the path if you saved it elsewhere.
- Compute the SHA-256. The printed value must match the SHA-256 above; letter case does not matter.
(Get-FileHash "$HOME\Downloads\StarixPDF-Setup-1.0.4.exe" -Algorithm SHA256).Hash - Check the Authenticode signature. Status should be Valid; under SignerCertificate, the Subject should start with CN="Starix Technology CO., LTD." and the Issuer should match the issuing CA above. TimeStamperCertificate shows the timestamp authority.
Get-AuthenticodeSignature "$HOME\Downloads\StarixPDF-Setup-1.0.4.exe" | Format-List Status, SignerCertificate, TimeStamperCertificate
If there is no Digital Signatures tab, the signer is different or the SHA-256 does not match, do not run the file. Delete it, download it again from this site, and contact us if the problem continues: service@starix.com.tw
If Windows shows “Windows protected your PC”
Microsoft Defender SmartScreen considers both the publisher’s certificate and the reputation each individual file has built up. Every release is a new file, so for a while after a release Windows can show this screen even for a correctly signed installer. The screen alone does not mean the file is harmful; check these before you continue:
- Make sure you downloaded the installer from pdf.starix.com.tw.
- Confirm the digital signature and SHA-256 as described above.
- On the SmartScreen screen, select More info and check that Starix Technology CO., LTD. is shown as the publisher.
- Only when everything matches, select Run anyway.
If the publisher shows Unknown publisher or any other name, select Don’t run. On a computer managed by your organization, policy may block new apps; ask your IT administrator.
